Description:  On April 8, 2016, the U.S. Labor department published a final rule on who is a fiduciary because he, she, or it offers or gives investment advice.  The new rule broadens the ways one can be treated as providing investment advice that brings in fiduciary duties.  This rule applies not only to advice about employment-based retirement plans but also to advice about an Individual Retirement Account or Annuity, an Archer Medical Savings Account, a Health Savings Account, and a Coverdell Education Savings Account.  Because many advisors get compensation that can vary based on what a client invests in (or even whether he or she invests), we’ll explain exemptions you can use to protect your compensation.  We’ll “translate” the rule’s 1,023 pages into practical information you can use.  Also, we’ll have plenty of time to answer your questions.
